Dear student

With Semester 2 now well underway, I’d like to take a moment to connect with you as one of our valued international students.

At RMIT, we are proud of our multi-cultural and multi-faith community, welcoming students from across the region and around the world, to study, research, and experience what it means to be part of the city of Melbourne. We are committed to creating a safe, respectful and inclusive environment for all members of our community.

As international students, you are a valued and vibrant part of our community, and we have huge appreciation for the diversity of global perspectives you bring to the classroom and to student life.

You may be aware of the march against mass migration planned for this Sunday. We understand that this may be challenging for you, so I want to remind you of the range of support services and resources for international students that you can access, if and when you need them.

You may also be aware of the regular Sunday gatherings at the State Library. However, with multiple protest activities happening on Sunday 31 August from 11am, there may be larger numbers of people in the city, so we encourage you to exercise care.

RMIT is deeply committed to protecting the right of every member of our community to learn, interact and participate fully in university life, knowing that you are welcome, you are safe, and you belong.

Today and every day, you are not only welcome at RMIT, you are part of RMIT.

Kind regards

Professor Sherman Young
Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education and Vice-President
RMIT University
